Akzo Nobel International Paints in Felling, Gateshead.

For health and safety reasons, it has been necessary to attempt to relocate a portion of the Tyne Kittiwake colony at Akzo Nobel in Felling on the Gateshead side of the river Tyne.  The owners have very kindly been busy constructing some ledges for the Kittiwakes before they return this season. The new Kittiwake shelving at the paint factory looks finished and the scaffolding has been partly removed. They’ll be in use soon!

Akzo Nobel is home to the » 3rd largest colony of Tyne Kittiwakes; with up to 262 pairs nesting.  This remains one of the oldest colonies along the river Tyne.  This colony is best viewed from the Newcastle side of the River Tyne; whilst in » Walker Riverside Park.

Prepared and made with love from Akzo Nobel. A green flagged site, where Tyne Kittiwakes
are not only welcomed to nest, but they go out of the way to help. Thank you! Akzo Nobel”
